Cisco Goes Greenfield

Hmm … is this a good thing or a bad thing for chip start-ups? To my knowledge Cisco has bought the following chip start ups – Skystone (OC-48 POS framers), StratumOne ( OC-192 PoS framers), and now GreenField ( MetroEthernet). In the 2 early ones, these purchases really messed up the industry because these startups were in everyones boxes (except JNPR). It took a long time for them to find replacements. With greenfield it isn’t clear that they won too many customers. Interesting… — iain —
