Apple iPhone & Horizontal Wireless

2 Good posts today on Apple’s “rumoured” iPhone.

One of the reasons that US-based mobile operators have avoided slipping into the role of providers of bits is that they still control the handset, unlike in wireline where all the control is the modem. This also gives them a little bit of control over what applications can be used with the phone.

Both posts speculate on the iPhone becoming the first device to start the US operators down the “slippery slope”.
