Music Industry let’s bail on DRM.” In summary, DRM was required in the beginning to get music industry on-side, it has been ( and will continue to be ) very difficult to main a fail-proof DRM system, the music industry continues to ship DRM-free music on CDs (~20B songs in 2006), why does smaller on-line music (~2B songs in 2006 ) need to be different?”.
Good points. I’d also add that DRM free CDs have much higher quality files than 128-AAC provided by iTunes. A CD ripped in “loss-less” format is around 4x larger.
